Who are we?

The Society for Invertebrate Pathology (SIP) was founded in 1967 as an interdisciplinary scientific society that would draw together members from diverse scientific backgrounds under the unified discipline of Invertebrate Pathology.  We currently have seven unique divisions which give members the opportunity to choose specific areas to share research.  SIP meets annually at international venues.

Why what we do is so important?

Invertebrate Pathology studies the diseases affecting invertebrate animals.

Over 90% of all species on Earth are invertebrates, and invertebrate species have been found in the fossil record as far back as 600 million years ago.

Invertebrates are a vital food source for many animals. They live towards the bottom of the food chain – a critically important spot to ensure all the other animals further up the chain can survive.
